Tanishq Ad Debate made media crazy and ZEE News calls Rahul Rajput as Rahul Gandhi

During a debate session that was based on the controversial advertisement released by jewellery brand Tanishq on 9th October, Zee News anchor Aman Chopra took Rahul Gandhi’s name instead of Rahul Rajput's.

The ad which showcased a Hindu woman married into a Muslim family is currently stirring up various argument across the country. The caption for the 45-second ad on YouTube read: “She is married into a family that loves her like their own child. Only for her, they go out of their way to celebrate an occasion that they usually don’t. A beautiful confluence of two different religions, traditions, cultures.”

The controversial advertisement was accused of promoting ‘love jihad’ and created an outrage on social media.

Hosting a debate show based on the same, Zee news anchor Aman Chopra called out against the advertisement saying that it’s'one-sided.’

“I want to ask the people if this advertisement really makes sense. Why are always Hindu women shown as a part of a Muslim family? Has there been a single advertisement showing a Muslim girl into a Hindu family?” Aman Chopra asked during the session.

While approaching further with his statement, Aman Chopra said that if a Muslim girl was shown as a part of a Hindu family, then it would have been another Rahul's case and as saying so, he mispronounced Rahul Rajput as Rahul Gandhi.

Who is Rahul Rajput and why is he becoming the subject of this debate?

Some people took to Twitter connecting the advertisement with the death of an 18-year-old Rahul Rajput, who was brutally murdered by his Muslim girlfriend’s brother and his friends. The Muslim family of his girlfriend, particularly her brother, were against their inter-religious affair.

The advertisement had more than 17,000 users tweeting with the hashtag ‘#BoycottTanishq, calling for the boycott of the jewellery brand for promoting the concept of 'love jihad' and hurting the sentiments of Hindus. Netizens called it as a malign effort to slander Hinduism.  Observing the riot, Tanishq has pulled down the advertisement from YouTube.

Actress Kangana Ranaut said that the execution of the ad was wrong. She tweeted, "The concept wasn’t as much a problem as the execution was, the fearful Hindu girl apologetically expressing her gratitude to her in-laws for the acceptance of her faith, Isn’t she the woman of the house? Why is she at their mercy? Why so meek and timid in her own house? Shameful.”

Many celebrities, however, supported the advertisement saying it was portrayed beautifully.
