Indian Railroads is as of now active in building one of the biggest marvels that will soon interface one of the foremost inaccessible parts of the nation within the union region of Jammu and Kashmir with the territory.
The national conveyer belt is building the world’s most elevated railroad bridge over stream Chenab that will connect the Kashmir Valley with the rest of India. The Chenab bridge forms an important link in the 111 km long stretch between Katra and Banihal, which is a part of Indian Railways’ Udhampur- Srinagar-Baramulla rail link project.
Chenab Bridge will be the world's highest rail bridge at 359 meters from the river's surface. The 1,315m-long bridge is being built in one of the world's most difficult landscapes. It will be 35 meters taller than the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France! According to a senior government official, “This is the tallest railway bridge in the world and the maximum designed wind speed for the bridge is 266 km ph,”
The Chenab Rail Bridge project is being executed by the Konkan Railway project with the help of the Defense Research Development Organisation. Around 1,400 men 500 of whom are locals are working the whole day to complete the bridge. The estimated cost of constructing was Rs 27,949 crore according to LieutenantGovernor Manoj Sinha, who reviewed the project.
In 2002, Atal Bihari Vajpayee prioritized the construction as a “project of national importance,” which would connect Kashmir's northernmost city, Baramulla to New Delhi but the construction on this strategic undertaking was tormented by mishaps.
The base foundation of the bridge was completed in 2017 and according to the tweet by Railway Minister Piyush Goyal, the construction work of the main arch is in full swing. The bridge will also have a 14m-wide dual carriageway and a 1.2m-wide central verge. The bridge has 17 spans as well as 469m main arch span across the river.
According to the plan, a tight security scale will also be provided to safeguard the bridge. In addition, an online monitoring and warning system will be installed on the bridge to protect the passengers and train in severe conditions. According to a PTI report, Indian Railways is also planning to host bungee jumping and many other adventure sports events at the bridge.
The railway will provide an incredible opportunity for the people of Kashmir by integrating them with the rest of India for many opportunities provided by one of the most rapidly elevating and dynamic economies of the world.
