Immediate lockdown in India led to the migrant crisis. Millions of workers were stranded jobless, money less and were starving. Many decided to go back to their hometown and one of the migrants in the Eastern West Bengal decided to board the train, but could not get the ticket.
The three migrants then decided to book a flight and sold their three goats to get the money for the tickets. Unfortunately, the flight got cancelled and the airlines declared no Refunds. The migrants lost 30,600 on flight tickets which were cancelled and now had no means to return.
The flight was canceled as the state government of West Bengal imposed restrictions on airline services, civil aviation minister Hardeep Singh Puri said in a Twitter post. But as every cloud has a silver lining, when IndiGo restarted its operation, they rebooked their tickets for June 1 without charging a single penny extra.
The strict stay-at-home orders imposed by Prime Minister NarendraModi, put many migrants' lives at risk. They had no means to sustain as there was no work, no transportation to take them back home and many lost their lives. It is also a proof of absence of coordination between provincial administrations and the federal government as the tickets were sold when the airlines were shut for transportation and without any prior notice airlines resumed operations.
Currently, worldwide, no airline is refunding cash due to cancellation of flights, however, they are rebooking the flight in future without any extra charge.
