Zomato and Swiggy are the home delivery giants in the food industry after UberEats was acquired by Zomato earlier in 2020. However, the competition will soon become fierce as Amazon is introducing its food delivery service in Bangalore and will quickly expand to other cities.
As Swiggy and Zomato have laid off many of their employees and valet's, Amazon's entry in the industry is good for the job seekers. It will also help to regulate the traffic flow as people will order online and will not get out of their homes or the ones who can't cook. Currently, Amazon will deliver only from hotels that have been tagged hygienic.
Apart from the breaking news from the Amazon, Swiggy and Zomato are ready to deliver Alcohol after proper verification and OTP confirmation. It has started in Ranchi, Jharkhand, but soon they will deliver in other major cities within a week.
The initiative is taken to curb the movement of people to buy Alcohol. As it was seen in the previous weeks, people crowded the liquor shops, which could have led to mass contamination of the deadly novel Coronavirus.
"By enabling home delivery of alcohol safely and responsibly, we can generate additional business for retail outlets while solving the problem of overcrowding, thereby promoting social distancing," Anuj Rathi, Vice President of Products at Swiggy, said in a statement.
There is a limit to liquor orders, as the person has to be of a certain age to order from them, "Wine shops" sections on the App. Along with age restriction, they also have to upload their selfie, government Id proof and send the OTP while ordering liquor.
One of the zomato's official said, "We believe that a technology-enabled home delivery based solution can enable responsible consumption of alcohol as well as provide an option that's safer and promotes social distancing."
