Lockdown is not enough; countries need to be aggressive to kill Corona, says WHO Director

The world is waging war against the novel Coronavirus, which is still an unknown enemy. All we know is the wrath it can inflict upon us, but we don't know the counter-attack or treatment. When there is no counter-attack, the only option left with the countries is making the defenses strong, and that's what is being done by announcing complete lockdown. However, WHO Direct General TedrosAdhanomGhebreyesus says it is not enough.

Creating an empty void by restricting socializing is like buying time. Yes, the virus is weak in itself and needs an external group of cells to spread infections, and by creating a situation like Isolation, chances of mass contamination will reduce. But, the fact is we can flatten the curve with quarantine, not make it negative altogether.

Tedros recently addressed the world and stated, "Asking people to stay home and shutting down population movement is buying time and reducing the pressure on health systems," but it "will not extinguish epidemics."

He recently took to his Twitter handle and said, "To slow the spread of COVID19, many countries introduced 'lockdown' measures. But on their own, these measures will not extinguish epidemics. We call on all countries to use this time to attack the coronavirus. You've created a 2nd window of opportunity."

In his statement, he clearly said, "Aggressive measures to find, isolate, test, treat and trace not only the best and fastest way out of extreme social and economic restrictions, they're also the best way to prevent them."

India undoubtedly is not facing extreme situations like other countries as the count of infected in 600 and 10 deaths have taken place. But, we cannot ignore the fact that no mass tests are being conducted in our country. Yes, all the international and national flights have been halted, public transportation restricted, and Isolation has been announced till 14th April, but we need to be more aggressive. Now is the time when all the countries should attack the virus together and nip it forever.
