Do you know Deepika Padukone got emotional and initially refused Chapaak after listening the story?

Chapaak is a "story of trauma and triumph and the unquashable human spirit." It is based on the real-life incident of Laxmi, an acid attack survivor who was only 15 years old when her life took a drastic turn. The main protagonist of the movie, Deepika Padukone, portrays Laxmi, got emotional during the trailer launch which was held on Tuesday, 10th December 2019.

True Story - Laxmi Agarwal acid on my face, not on my dreams

Chapaak stars Deepika Padukone who tries to explain the agony and excruciating pain of the acid victim, and Vikrant Massey plays Amol, a social activist and Malti’s partner. The movie delves into the socio-legal circumstances and its impact on the victim.

The prosthetics and makeup made the diva look like an acid attack victim. When asked Meghna Gulzar, the director of the movie, about choosing Deepika as the protagonist, she said, “You won’t be seeing Deepika, you know. You will be seeing a disfigured

She also said to a leading newspaper on asking why she chose such a sensitive topic for the movie, “When I came across a few such incidents [of acid attack], it got stuck in my head that this is happening and there’s a world of these girls, who’ve been attacked by acid or are acid attack survivors. And we don’t know much about them. More than knowing, it’s to understand why it happens and how it can be prevented. Actually, in a way, it is life worse than death,”

At the trailer launch, Deepika came with Meghna Gulzaar and was emotional on releasing the first movie under her production banner, KA. The movie is all set to release next year on 10th January and is a comeback of the actress. Let’s hope that it gives a strong message to society and is a catalyst towards making strict laws against attackers and the protection of women.
