Drastic increment in the salary package of Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai

Sundar Pichai, who took over as CEO of Google's parent company Alphabet, will get a total package of Rs 1,722 crore ($ 24.6 million) for the next three years. This is by far the heaviest package for any search engine company official.

The package includes the company's shares worth Rs 1,680 crore ($ 24 million) and take home salary of Rs 42 crore ($ 6 million).

With this, Pichai's basic salary has been increased by 200%. His new salary package will come into effect from January 1, 2020.

Tim Cook and Satya Nadella are far Ahead of Sundar Pichai

However, the salary and allowances that Sundar Pichai received is still much lower than Apple CEO Tim Cook and Microsoft founder Satya Nadella. In 2018, Timothy Donald Cook received Rs 957 crore and Satya Nadella received Rs 306 crore. At the same time, the highest salary and allowances was given by Tesla CEO Elon Musk which was Rs 3591 crore.

In 2018, Pichai's Salary Was $ 19 Million

Pichai has been receiving huge pay scales for a long time. Earlier, he received a $ 200 million stock award in 2016. Last year he refused to accept the stock award, saying that he was already getting good salary. Pichai received a salary of $ 19 million in 2018, according to the Bloomberg Pay Index.

Unexpected Stock Award from Company

This is the first time that the company has decided to give a stock award based on performance. Pichai is elected for the top post as the CEO of Alphabet this month after Co-founders of Google Larry Page and Sergey Brin resignation from their posts.
